Have you ever dreamed of embarking on an unforgettable adventure, exploring ancient castles, picturesque villages, and the breathtaking landscapes of Eastern Europe? Well, I had the incredible opportunity to do just that with the Nomadic Matt travel group on a 12-day itinerary through Romania.

From the bustling streets of Bucharest to the legendary Transfagarasan Highway, this trip was a rollercoaster of experiences and emotions. Here’s a glimpse of my extraordinary journey.

Day 1: Arrive in Bucharest

As I touched down in Bucharest, I could feel the excitement building. The Nomadic Matt group greeted me with warm smiles, setting the tone for an incredible adventure ahead.

Day 2: Explore Bustling Bucharest

Bucharest, Romania’s capital, is a fascinating blend of old-world charm and modern vibrancy. We explored the iconic Palace of the Parliament, roamed through the historic Lipscani district, and sampled delicious Romanian cuisine at a local restaurant.

Day 3: Cable Car Ride up Tampa Mountain

In Brasov, we took a cable car ride up Tampa Mountain, where the sweeping views of the Carpathian Mountains left us in awe. The lush greenery and fresh mountain air were a refreshing change from city life.

Brasov was one of my favorite places to visit. I loved that my hotel wasnt far from the town square, where you could easily walk around.

There were so many good shops, restaurants and cultural experiences here.

Day 4: Brasov & Bears by Foot

Brasov’s medieval charm captivated us as we wandered through its cobblestone streets. The highlight of the day was a visit to the Liberty Bear Sanctuary, where we learned about their conservation efforts.

This small town felt like it transported me back to old times. It should definitely be on your itinerary through Romania, it was one of my absolute favorite places.

Day 5: Bran Castle & Brasov

Bran Castle, often associated with Dracula, stood majestically against the backdrop of the Carpathians. The interior was as captivating as the legends surrounding it.

Day 6: Corund, A Village in Székely Land

We journeyed to the enchanting village of Corund in Székely Land, known for its traditional ceramics. Meeting local artisans and witnessing their craftsmanship was a memorable experience.

Day 7: Fantana Plateau Nature Walk

Nature lovers were in their element during our hike through Fantana Plateau. The serene beauty of the Carpathian forests and pristine landscapes was a true revelation.

Day 8: Sighișoara’s Citadel & Village

Sighișoara, a UNESCO World Heritage site, transported us back in time with its medieval citadel. The town’s vibrant colors and narrow streets made it feel like a fairy tale.

Day 9: Stroll Sibiu: The Town with Eyes

Sibiu, with its “eyes” on the rooftops, was another highlight. We explored the historic squares and enjoyed the lively atmosphere.

This was another one of my favorite towns to visit. It was so lively during the day and at night. We were there during g a summer arts festival, so there was so much to see and do.

Day 10: Medieval Hunedoara Castle

The imposing Hunedoara Castle, also known as Corvin Castle, made us feel like knights and princesses. Its Gothic architecture and rich history fascinated us all.

Day 11: Transfagarasan Highway & Dracula’s Castle Ruins

Driving along the Transfagarasan Highway, we were treated to some of the most breathtaking scenery Romania has to offer. The visit to the ruins of Dracula’s Castle added a spooky twist to our journey.

Day 12: Depart from Bucharest

As our adventure came to an end, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia. Romania had truly stolen my heart, and the friendships forged with fellow travelers were the icing on the cake.

Conclusion

Exploring Romania with Nomadic Matt’s Travel Group was an experience like no other. My 12 day itinerary through Romania included bustling cities to the tranquil countryside, Romania’s diverse landscapes and rich history made this journey unforgettable.
