Like everywhere you go, you have to be cautious of your surroundings and smart about what you’re doing and when, but you should definitely give these destinations a chance.
1. Colombia
When you think of Colombia what comes to mind is everyone uses and sells drugs. That misconception could stop you from visiting, but that would be a mistake.
Colombia is becoming a popular destination in South America. Colombia is great for backpackers and budget travel.
From beautiful beach to lush jungles, delicious food, salsa dancing there is no shortage of things to do here. Plus it is home to 10% of the world Biodiversity.
You can journey into the Amazon, which makes up 1/3 of the country. Dive in the tropics waters of San Andres. If you’re a coffee addict Colombia has some of the best in the world.
There are free walking tours in the major cities. Not to mention you can eat local cuisine for as little as $2. You can stay at a hostel for as little as $10-$25.
2. Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka is a great place to visit on a shoestring budget. It has golden sandy beaches, wildlife and ancient temples.
You can stay in local home stays and hostels for $10-$20. Hop on a bus for as little as $1-$3, Sri Lanka has an extensive transportation system. Or you can rent a scooter for the day.
You can dine at a restaurant for two for as little as $15. Trek to the top of Little Adam’s Peak. Mirrissa is great for surfers and swimming.
Kandy Lake is great for taking photos and interesting to look at the lake along the cloud wall. Bundala National Parks is great to see wildlife like water buffalo, mongoose and different types of monkeys.
3. India
Two misconception of India is that everyone is poor, and it is dirty. India has so much more to offer than you think. You can have a list about 7 cheap destinations without mentioning India.
India can be a very affordable destination. You can enjoy a meal for $10. A coffee can cost less than $2. There are many street vendors selling delicious food, and the best part you can get a lot of food for a $1.
You can jump on a 218 mile train ride for $3. You can book an Uber for an hour for $4-$5. Accommodations can be as little as $10-$40.
India has a lot to offer its visitors. If you love mountains then there is Himalaya, or for beaches there is Goa, and Andaman. Wildlife lovers have to visit the Jim Corbett National Park, Sundarban and many more. India is also enriched with history and rich culture.
4. Morocco
A general misconception of Morocco is that it is not a safe place to visit. Moroccans are hospitable and open-minded people. Its a great option for cheap Destinations of 2023.
You do have to stay alert because pickpockets are around the city, but if you use common sense you should be fine.
Full meals in Morocco you can get for $7-$10 or a more expensive meal could be $10-$20, which is not bad at all. Accommodations can be as little as $9-$40 at hostels or Airbnbs.
Morocco is a fantastic place that has mountains to deserts. Marrakesh is obviously the most international city with lots of different things to do, but there are so many other places to visit.
You can sleep in a tent on the dunes in the Sahara Desert. Hike the High Atlans which spans 1500 miles. Home the canyon in Todra Gorge near High Atlas.
5. Indonesia
When most people think of Indonesia they think of Bali. Bali is one of the most visited places in the world. It’s a great destination to visit as one of the best cheap destinations of 2024.
Bali can be cheap or expensive depending on where you stay and eat and what time of year you go. You can spend $20 on food and $8 on local transportation, with accommodation costing $40 a night.
There are so many interesting things to do in Indonesia such as walking with Dragons in Komodo National Park. Climb volcanoes in Java. Visit the color changing Kelimutu Lakes in Flores.
6. Bangladesh
Maybe because of its bad reputation or for whatever reason Bangladesh does not get many visitors each year, which is a shame because it’s a great place to visit.
Bangladesh is extremely cheap and the people are very friendly. You can travel Bangladesh for $15-$20 a day.
You can stay at a hotel for as little as $5-$9. Lunch and dinner are extremely cheap from $2-$6. Snacks and street food are even cheaper.
From Beaches to Forests and National Parks, there’s an abundance of things to do in Bangladesh.
You can go to Cox’s Bazaar Beach, Saint Martin Island. Go to the calm and quiet Sundarbans Forest. Go to Lawchara National Park. You will not be bored here.
7. Thailand
You cant have a lost of cheap
destinations of 2024 without mentioning Thailand. The misconceptions are endless I’m Thailand, from the country is the food is too spicy and it’s poor and dangerous. The truth is Thailand is a beautiful country with delicious food.
Traveling and backpacking around Thailand is so cheap, which is why it gets so many tourists each year. If you get off the beaten path, that’s a great way to save money and experience more of what Thailand has to offer.
You can get around Thailand for $25-$30 a day. Chiang Mai and Pai in Northeran Thailand are less expensive than the Islands and Bangkok.
Go on trekking tours and night markets in Chiang Mai. Krabi Town is great for backpackers looking for a cheap nights stay.
Hike the Jungles of Pai and stay in the cheapest place in Thailand Koh Samui. Spend days at its magical Forests, Beaches and Lagoons.
